New Contact Cards

Yesterday I received my contact/business cards in the mail. I am very impressed. GotPrint.com printed for me. I think I may use this company in the future. Well nothing new now, so I will end this post short.

Stranger 4 - Jan

The mailman dropped off an invitation to the house that the local church group were going up and down the streets cleaning out flower beds, racking up old fall leaves and trimming up yards. Afterwards, they would hold a mini party for the locals to come and gather, eat and enjoy one's company. I'm so glad I went because I would of never met this caring individual. 

Everyone, please meet Jan.

As I was finished my hotdog, she approached me to say hello. We talked for a few about the event the church were holding. She's a fellow church goer who dedicated her Saturday morning & afternoon cleaning up yards around town.

After we made small talk, she asked me if I was somekind of local photographer. I said "yes" with a slight smile, and she explained how she got a new point and shoot camera and is still working out the bugs on how it works. She loves photography, which led me to ask her about the current project I'm working on, 100 Strangers. She humbly accepted.

Thank you very much Jan! You have such a great heart and spirit. May I find you again to say "hello" in the near future.

Stranger 3 - Harrison

The weather forecast for the weekend was calling for nothing but crummy showers, so I had to make use of my Friday the 13th and try to find a subject for my stranger project.

The sun was setting fast and I was loosing available light. I had to find somebody. Then bam! I found these college buddies hanging out enjoying ice cream cones. I was actually pretty nervous since this was going to be my first actually asking for someone's photo. The last two were expected on the current situation. As soon as I saw them sitting on the bench, I told my girlfriend to wait for a moment while I ask these guys.

"Excuse gentlemen? I was wondering if anyone of you could help me out?"

They looked at me particular with my 105mm Nikkor Micro.

"Ummm, sure."

I told them I was working on a new personal photography project and wanted to see if any of them would mind if I took their photos. They all hesitated for a moment and then said, "sure" (Well I kinda had to push it a bit.)!

I took all their photos chowing down on their ice cream cones, until I came to this individual. His name is Harrison. He seemed a little camera shy when I asked him, but his buddies egged him on and eventually, peer pressure won. I told him I wasn't looking for anything spectatular, so he licked his cone while his buddies were trying to make him laugh.

Stranger 2 - Jimmy

Upon first arrival to the Civil War Encampment, this gentleman was the first I spoke to. His name is Jimmy. Jimmy also travels around teaching us great American History. Today I learned what the soldiers brought to their campsite, what kind of different foods they ate and how a tent was pitched. From looking at the plain white sheet, didn't look like rocket science.

Anyway, after a brief history lesson on living standards during and between battles, I ask Jimmy if he would be so kind to let me snap of photo of him. He didn't mind at all.

Thanks Jimmy on soldier life during the war. Now I know I don't have to pitch a tent while figuring out if what I'm eating, is going to do me more harm than good. I truly hope you enjoy this photo. Cheers!

Stranger 1 - Jerry

I was on my drive home from a softball game I was shooting for my little sister and came across the Civil War Encampment at my local historical society. This place was great, so I whipped the car around and found a parking spot. The event was setup like a mini camp site during a battle during the war. Camping gear to standard firearms were displayed. They even had a section where wounded soldiers would get their limbs whacked off if injured during battle. OUCH!

As I was walking around the campsite, I came across a gentleman who was dressed up as our 16th President, Abe Lincoln. From the gecko, I had to stop him and have a quick chat. His name is Jerry and he travels around with his soldier friends teaching us about the Civil War. After we talked about the site, I asked for his photo. You cannot pass up shooting a great look-alike President. He said "sure", but warned me he may break my camera. He posed for me in a standard pose Lincoln would of stood in the 1800s. Straight upright, shoulders back and one arm by his chest. Very cool!

Finally...I'm Back!

HEELLOO!!! Well it certainly has been some time since a new post here. Let me get situated and tell you what's new and what to expect here.

New stuff I've been up to is, well not new, but I'm still taking photos. Been learning some new areas such as using a dedicated flash. Wow, I love using flash in my photography now! Its a new curve to get used to, but the end results look so much more professional. Also got out and bought myself a new lens for my Nikon. The Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 Micro. This thing is a beast. Literally! The thing is heavy and bulky, but very well made. I'm glad I ordered it before Nikon increased the prices on their lenses. So pretty much flash and up-close macro are my new babies right now. Bought a few other gear for carrying and organizing.

The other big thing is, I now have an "Official" photography site. I'm super psyched that its complete and up and running. Took me about a month to complete with NO WEB-BUILDING experience (maybe a little through college). WIX.com helped me get it up and running. Check it out, my new site: Matt Moser Photoworks.

I would like to continue to update my blog on new photos posted. The new thing I want to do is give you an in-depth look at how I shoot each photo I post and also show you a behind the scene look at my setup. I think it only fair to show my recipes and tips with everyone else, since I learned a lot from other photographers.

Now that I updated my blog with a Flickr gadget to view all my new images submitted, I can ignore posting annoying links for each post. Thank you Blogger!

2010 Cleveland National Air Show

Hey, haven't posted anything for awhile now, but been mad busy with work and new photography.

Recently got back from the Cleveland Air Show in Cleveland, Ohio using my new lens rental from LensProToGo; the magnificent 80-400mm by Nikon. The Blue Angels were the main attraction at this year's event and let me tell you they do NOT disappoint. It's mind-bending how they do all that shit. The day started horrible; cloudy, extremely windy and rainy. I was prying for the sun to show it's face. After midday, the sun began to peep through every once in awhile, but as soon as the Blue Angels took to the sky, we had sunny skies and a show. Here's a few of my favorite from the show:
