2010 Cleveland National Air Show

Hey, haven't posted anything for awhile now, but been mad busy with work and new photography.

Recently got back from the Cleveland Air Show in Cleveland, Ohio using my new lens rental from LensProToGo; the magnificent 80-400mm by Nikon. The Blue Angels were the main attraction at this year's event and let me tell you they do NOT disappoint. It's mind-bending how they do all that shit. The day started horrible; cloudy, extremely windy and rainy. I was prying for the sun to show it's face. After midday, the sun began to peep through every once in awhile, but as soon as the Blue Angels took to the sky, we had sunny skies and a show. Here's a few of my favorite from the show:

Evening Down in Amish County, U.S.A.

Sorry, I've been rather lazy getting updated photos onto my blog. But onto business...

Last weekend, I decided to drive through where I spent part of my childhood, when I came across the little town of Kidron, Ohio. I never thought much of the place back in the day. Smelly horses, scary looking Amishmen with their big ole beards, and road apples populating the streets you drive. I matured and think it's all beautiful this little town is. Here's a few I took while on my drive-by(haha, drive-bys in a Amish community) through this farmland.

Night Dance of the Moths

You really wouldn't imagine moths being great subject matter, but I accidently stumbled while taking a break. Set up my tripod and got ready for some long exposure light dancing.

Playdate with a pair of Converse

Shoes can tell so much of a person. The great thing about shoes are [insert Forest Gump] they can take you anywhere. Place them in their suitable environment and you have a great story. For me, my girlfriend let me shoot her blue converse on the playground stones. The shot instantly exploded into something great!

An Evening in Wooster, Ohio

The weekend forecast rain, rain, and more rain. Didn't have very high hopes for an outing to capture a few HDR, but my luck changed and had a nice photogenic outing photographing a few city scenes.

HDR at Sippo Lake, Massillon, Ohio

Gotten around to pull off a HDR photo at Sippo Lake. I love HDR photography, but never gotten around to utilize it. Now with my D90, able to pull off auto-bracketing for a quick turn-around and precision. With a little more patients and practice, I might be able to "wow" myself on my next outing.

Summertime Fruit

Here are few shots of experimentation with fruit and sparkling water. Thanks to Bryan Peterson for the helpful tips.

Here's the breakdown of this shot:

  • Nikon D90 w/ 50mm 1.8
  • Tripod
  • Vase or glass w/ sparkling or mineral water.
  • Blue posterboard backdrop
  • Reflector used underneath vase
  • Assistant
Notes: I shot this at 800 ISO to get freezing motion (think I was around 1/4,000 sec). Continuous high at 4FPS to insure accuracy. Another alternative is to use a shutter release cable if your running solo on this. Best time of day is at midday. This way the reflector can hit underneath the fruit for overall lighting.

For any other questions about how I shot these, feel free to post. Cheers!

By the way, sparkling water is disgusting.
